LMB Group Give Students a Taste of the Construction Life

Earlier this year LMB Group were awarded the landmark project in Dewsbury called Pioneer House through our client Styles & Wood.

Pioneer House is a £3,000,000 transformation of the old Pioneer House building into a state-of-the-art learning centre for Kirklees College.

The project is a centrepiece of the Dewsbury Townscape Heritage Initiative, a programme jointly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Kirklees Council to preserve and enhance key buildings in Dewsbury.

We were invited by Styles & Wood to support them in a student scheme through Kirklees College. The scheme will consist of a number of level 1 and 2 electricians and plumbers attending site over a number of weeks to gain some real-life experience of the project and how construction sites like this particular project are run.

Our Commercial Manager Billy Bingham attended the event which consisted of a presentation to the students on health & safety and some further background on the project, a tour of the project itself where a number of the key heritage elements were discussed and a number of H&S red herrings were set up to test the students as we walked around the development.

Billy commented, “It was a real privilege to be asked to come down and speak to the students, seeing them engage with us and the Styles & Wood team through the morning was fantastic to see. The project itself is a real flagship development for Dewsbury and we hope that this will kickstart further redevelopment in the area. The students took a real interest in the project, the heritage behind it and what roles they all had to play. To also have some light-hearted fun with them in terms of the red herrings that were set up on site, really highlighted to the students the importance of keeping abreast of the dangers that sites like these can hold. A big well done to Dave Kilner of Styles & Wood for organising the event and we hope we can support them with additional events in the future”

 

 

 

#Heckhike is a Roaring Success for Kirkwood Hospice

The sun was shining, 1,200 children were hopping around the sports hall warming up with sheer excitement as ‘Reach for the Stars’ played out through the school speakers…….the countdown to #Heckhike was on.

In January this year our Managing Director Andrew Bean decided he was going to raise £10,000 for Kirkwood Hospice by walking 1,000,000 steps a month for 12 consecutive months……an incredible challenge in itself.

Then came the call from Heckmondwike Grammar who’d seen a number of our social media posts. The school wanted to support Andy with his fundraising efforts by joining him on one of his walks, the concept of #Heckhike was born.

We had the pleasure of being joined by former Bradford City COO James Mason, Former Bradford City legend, Huddersfield Town and Oldham midfielder Lee Duxbury, former England, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forrest legend Colin Cooper, Huddersfield Giants and Rugby League legend Eorl Crabtree and of course our two mascots Rory the Lion and Billy Bantam.

The day was hosted by Heckmondwike Grammar teacher James Rourke who did a sterling job of getting the kids ready for the challenge ahead. They descended from the school, along the Greenway to Low Moor and back to the school again, a very impressive 10 miles.

The day was made extra special as our Managing Director Andy Bean was joined by his son Alfie on the walk as Alfie is a student at the school. Andy had this to say about the event “I can’t thank the children and staff of Heckmondwike Grammar enough for supporting me with this event. We set out to raise £10,000 for Kirkwood Hospice this year and this walk and the sponsorship we raise off the back of it will go a long way to achieving that target. It was amazing to see the sports hall absolutely rocking before we set off and the atmosphere in general was fantastic. It was also great to see the likes of James Mason, Eorl Crabtree, Colin Cooper and Lee Duxbury getting behind this event and supporting these fantastic kids”

Apprenticeship Programme Starts with a Bang

The LMB Group 2019/2020 apprenticeship programme has started with a bang as we welcomed three new apprentices to the company this week.

Louis Horne pictured left, joins the company as an adult apprentice having previously played as a professional footballer for Bradford City FC. Lucas Audsley pictured bottom right and Josh Fairclough pictured top right both join LMB Group as junior apprentices and all three will be starting with Leeds College of Building in September.

LMB’s commitment to providing a pathway for people to enter the industry is evident as we have now recruited twenty-five apprentices over the last five years. Commercial Manager Billy Bingham was in buoyant mood today and had this to say:-

“We are constantly hearing about a skills shortage in the construction industry and we all have to make sure we are doing our bit to bridge that gap. It’s been a long-standing tradition that LMB provide that pathway for people of all ages to enter our industry if they feel that’s the right career path for them, and I applaud our Directors for sticking to that. We had an unbelievable response to our recruitment adverts this year and the candidates were very strong and many were evenly matched which fills us with optimism. We’d all like to wish Louis, Lucas and Josh every success in their roles and we hope they will all be with LMB for many years to come”

 

 

 

Welcome to the Team Luke!!

Our 2019 recruitment drive continues to deliver as we welcomed Luke Wallace into the fold this week. Luke joins LMB Electrical, part of the LMB Group as our new Electrical Project Manager.

Still in his early 30’s, Luke has built up a strong reputation in the industry as a Project Manager having spent the last eight years working for Relay Electrical and latterly Sigma Group. Luke’s addition comes at a time as our Electrical division continues to go from strength to strength.

LMB Electrical Director Peter Long commented, “I’m delighted to welcome Luke to the team. We have been in the market for an additional Project Manager for several months now and have seen a number of candidates as a result. We needed to make sure we recruited someone with the relevant experience but also someone that would fit into our company culture and Luke ticks both of those boxes. I’m hopeful that Luke will embrace the role with open arms and I’m looking forward to seeing him grow and develop as an LMB Project Manager”

Upon his appointment, Luke had this to say “I’ve had a really good couple of days with the team visiting existing sites and getting my head around some of our current projects. I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to join LMB. Having been with Relay and Sigma for the last 8 years, I felt moving to LMB was just what I needed to enhance my career and I’m looking forward to becoming a key member of the team as we strive towards our strategic goals as a collective”

 

 

 

 

Welcome to the Team Harrison!!

We were delighted to welcome our first trainee of 2019 to the ever increasing LMB team. Harrison Short has recently joined the group in the capacity of Trainee Estimator and will be working closely with our Senior Estimating team as he learns and develops his skillset for Estimating.

Harrison originally attended an interview for one of our apprenticeship vacancies for plumbing and heating but really impressed in his initial interview, so much so that he was immediately earmarked for the Trainee Estimator role.

Commercial Manager Billy Bingham said “I was very impressed with how Harrison carried himself in the initial interview for our apprenticeship programme. To say he’s only 15, he came across with such maturity, you can tell he’s got a good work ethic by some of the things he said at interview and he’s got a life plan, that I really liked. He’s keen to learn and develop himself and he’s shown a real enthusiasm for the role in only a short space of time which is very refreshing to see. If he continues with the same enthusiasm, then he’s going to make a really good addition to the team”

Managing Director Andy Bean commented, “I’m a big believer in giving youth a chance in business. I don’t think there is a better feeling than seeing a member of our team starting off as a trainee and making the necessary strides it takes to become successful in their individual roles. We see it if often with our external apprentices on site and hopefully Harrison will follow the same path and become successful in his Estimating role”

 

 

 

 

LMB Group Conquer the Yorkshire 3 Peaks

Saturday the 8th June 2019 will be day some of the team won't have fond memories. Jordan McConway, Billy Bingham, Stacey Laverick and Natalie Rainbow all donned their waterproofs and walking boots as they set off to the Yorkshire Dales to walk the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in aid of Bradford charity One in a Million.

The 26 mile walk in rough terrain wasn't helped by the treacherous weather our team encountered at the start of their ascent of Pen-Y-Ghent. The team at LMB Group were also joined by some of our clients and suppliers from BAM, Priestley Construction, AJH, CTS and Allcad. Despite the weather conditions and a few injuries along the way, the majority of the team managed to finish the walk in a very respectable time. A big well done must go out to our very own Natalie Rainbow who was the only person within our office to complete the 3 Peaks and she did it in just over 12 hours.

Natalie commented “The walk was without doubt the most challenging thing I have done to date, both physically and mentally especially with the weather conditions we had. When I saw the finishing line there was such a sigh of relief and a great sense of pride in what I’d achieved. If feels even better knowing that we’ve helped a number of children across the Bradford region with the money we have raised”

LMB Group Continues with Expansion Plans

LMB Group are delighted to welcome a new member to the ever-increasing team at our Head Office in Cleckheaton this morning. Mechanical Project Manager Terry Swaine has made the switch to LMB Group from Huddersfield based Ambitemp where he worked for 17 years.

Terry has a wealth of sector experience where he’s managed several large M&E projects and that experience will be huge benefit to us as we continue with our 2019 expansion plans. Managing Director Andy Bean was delighted to capture the services of Terry whom he has known for some time and commented, “We keep talking about the importance of raising the bar in everything that we do, and our internal recruitment is no different. Terry is a strong acquisition for the company given his experience and the type of projects he’s delivered in the past. This experience is going to be a welcome addition as we continue with our expansion plans for 2019”.

Terry will be working closely with Director Steve Mortimer and Steve was also delighted to welcome Terry to the team “We met with Terry some weeks ago and I really like his approach. We have had a very busy start to the financial year and signs are showing that the year is going to be busier than we predicted. Having someone like Terry within the business who has excellent experience of our sector is really going to help us maintain the excellent service levels we are renowned for”.

When asked about his appointment this morning Terry was really looking forward to the challenge ahead and had this to say; “It’s great to be joining the team at LMB. I’ve had some time out to recharge my battery’s and now I’m chomping at the bit to get going. Having worked for Ambitemp for 17 years, obviously I’m expecting things to be very different but I’m also looking forward to working with Andy, Steve, Pete and the rest of the team as we embark on a challenging but exciting year ahead”.

LMB Group are Yorkshire Choice Awards Winners

If you follow us on our social media platforms, you may have noticed we’ve been quietly mentioning our success at the Yorkshire Choice Awards which was held at the Pavilion Suite at Elland Road last Saturday evening.

LMB Group were nominated in two categories this year, Independent Business of the Year and our Managing Director Andrew Bean, was also nominated for the Business Man of the Year category.

It’s been a while since the business has been nominated for an award. In 2008 we won New Business of the Year at the Reporter Series Business Awards and in 2011 we picked up the Larger Business of the Year award again at the Reporter Series Business Awards.

The award ceremony was hosted by ITV’s Christa Ackroyd and there were some standout performances by Lizzie Jones, Tilly Ducker and Bethany Hare, the founder of the charity Bethany’s Smile. It was great opportunity for the LMB team to let their hair down and have some fun whilst listening to some of the most inspirational stories from within the Yorkshire region.

Despite making the final shortlist for the Business Man of the Year category, LMB Managing Director Andrew Bean narrowly missed out on the award which went to Alan Suttle of Suttle Transport Services. However, Andrew was delighted with picking up the Independent Business of the Year award and had this to say, “The Independent Business of the Year award was certainly the one we wanted to win because business is a team effort. We have a really good team throughout the group who all share the same vision and goals as myself and my business partner Steve Mortimer. We are about to embark on an exciting phase for the business as we look to increase our turnover and head count. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at LMB Group for their hard work and commitment over the 12 months”

Commercial Manager Billy Bingham was delighted with the award and commented “When I joined the business back in 2018, my initial remit was to raise the profile of the business across our region. We have a really good business, excellent service levels and excellent installation standards but we were rubbish at shouting about it. Hopefully this award will be the first of many to come in the future as we aim to make LMB Group the leading M&E contractor in the Yorkshire region”

Skipton Town Hall Just the Job for LMB

Our start to 2019 continues to get better and better. We are delighted to share with you the news that LMB Group has been awarded another fantastic project, this time through Bradford based building contractor, Bermar Building. The redevelopment of the grade ll listed building, will see LMB take on the following services: -

 

• LTHW pipework installation.
• Supply & extract air handling units.
• Extract fans and equipment.
• GSS ductwork installation.
• Domestic hot and cold-water installation.
• Refrigeration installation of AHU cooling coils.
• Refrigeration installation of close control and comfort cooling installation
• Above ground drainage from sanitary ware.
• Thermal insulation.
• Acoustic lagging.
• Automatic Controls installation.

 

Commercial Manager Billy Bingham had this to say about the latest contract win, “2019 has started better than any of us thought it would. Royal Liver Building Secured Through Triton Construction

25/03/2019

As we near the end of the first quarter for 2019, I don’t think anyone could have anticipated the start we have made. Our long-standing relationship with Triton Construction continues to go from strength to strength. We were delighted to secure the mechanical package at the end of last week for the for the grade one listed, Royal Liver Building in Liverpool which we hope to complete across various phases.

The project will see a number of facilities proposed in the basement are of the building which will include a new cycle store and workshop, new tenant-use gym with potential for public use and new shower and changing facilities. Other areas scheduled for works will be general office areas, where a new comfort cooling VRF system shall be installed to provide the heating and cooling requirements, accompanied by toilet areas with new domestic waters, drainage and extract ventilation.

LMB Group’s works will consist of a new ventilation system and comfort cooling, sanitary ware, domestic waters, above ground drainage, LTHW heating, integrating our new works into the existing BMS controls system, thermal insulation, chlorination, water treatment and fully testing and commissioning our works. Managing Director Andy Bean was over the moon to secure this project, he added "We’d like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude and thanks to Triton for awarding us this fantastic scheme. The Liver Building is a very prominent and iconic building in the heart of Liverpool and it's a project we are very much looking forward to starting on"

 

Another Contract Secured for 2019

We are delighted to announce another M&E contract win with RFM Group of Leeds. The contract will see LMB Group, provide all the necessary design, labour, plant and materials, to execute the complete mechanical, electrical and plumbing package on the refurbishment project at Thorpe Park, Leeds.

Works will commence on the 18^th of February and the contract will see LMB Group link up with RFM Group for the first time this year. LMB Group Managing Director Andy Bean, commented “We’d like to thank the RFM Group and Leigh Edmondson in particular, for giving us the opportunity to work on this great project. 2019 has been a cracking start for the group and we hope that this project will go on to further contracts with RFM Group this year”

Due to a fantastic start to 2019 and a very healthy order book, LMB Group are looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Estimator to support the continued growth of the business. Based at our Head Office in Cleckheaton, you will perform a leading role within the estimating department working on potential projects within the commercial, retail and industrial sectors whilst supporting and overseeing the junior estimators. As a Senior Estimator you will be responsible for:-

• To prepare estimates, quotations and budget prices to secure orders for work
• Including :-
  • Review client specifications and requirements.
  • Attend Client team meetings
  • Develop Outline client scope into fully detailed costs
  • Site Visits.
  • Quantity take offs from drawings.
  • Prepare requests for quotations to Sub Contractors and Suppliers.

Andy's Clocking up the Miles for Charity

LMB Group Managing Director Andrew Bean will embark on a gruelling twelve-month, charity challenge for Kirkwood Hospice and The Children’s Heart Surgery Charity, starting on the first of January 2019.

Andy came up with the crazy challenge of walking 1,000,000 steps a month, for 12 consecutive months after LMB Group committed to supporting three charities for 2019, they will also include Bradford based children’s charity One in a Million in its three chosen charities.

Andy will walk 32,876 steps a day, the equivalent of 19.3 miles per day which will equate to 7,058 miles over a twelve-month period. Andy had this to say about the challenge, “I’ve always been into fitness and setting myself challenging goals, but this will be a tough one to say the least. We’ve always supported charities where we can, but next year we decided to put some structure and focus behind our fundraising efforts. We chose Kirkwood Hospice and The Children’s Heart Surgery as two of our chosen charities after asking our team to nominate a charity and give us a reason why. I couldn’t believe that some of our team had recently had family members at the hospice and one of our Estimators had heart surgery at the hospital when he was younger, it seemed like two obvious choices really”

LMB Group Secure £1,000,000 M&E Package With Broadley

30/11/2018

We are delighted announce that LMB Group have secured a fantastic M&E scheme in the heart of Sheffield on the iconic ‘Tower’ building.

The project will see LMB Group undertake all mechanical and electrical works across an existing nine storey office building which will be redeveloped into a residential apartment block compromising of sixty-nine residential units and business management facilities.

The project is expected to be completed within forty-five weeks, with works commencing early 2019. LMB Group Managing Director, Andy Bean was delighted to receive notification of the project win this week and added, “I’m thrilled to receive confirmation that we have secured this fantastic scheme in Sheffield with Broadley. We are finishing 2018 very strong indeed and I have real optimism that 2019 could be a fantastic year for the group. I’d like to thank all the team that were involved in securing this contract, I’m absolutely thrilled, and I can’t wait for us to share our site progress as the development takes shape”

 

LMB Group Team up With One in a Million

2019 is already shaping up to be a record-breaking year for the business. As a group, we have many exciting developments in the pipeline to share with you as the year progresses. High on the agenda at our last board meeting was Corporate Social Responsibility and how we, as a group can raise the bar in terms of giving back to our local community and charities.

As a group we have always supported charities where can, through fundraising and attending events like dinners and awards nights. To coincide with our growth plans, we decided that having a more structured approach to our charity programme is going to maximise the opportunities and support we can give back to the local area.

So, we are delighted to announce that we have chosen Bradford based charity One in a Million, as our first charity partner for 2019. The charity was founded by former Bradford City player Wayne Jacobs in 2005 and the work they have done for the children and young people in the Bradford area is nothing short of amazing. We look forward to developing our relationship with the charity, it’s employees and supporting the children and young people of Bradford.

LMB Group Secure New Contract With Lorne Stewart

15/11/2018

It’s been a week of success stories so far for the team at LMB Group. After announcing Tuesday that we had secured the mechanical contract for Leeds Ambulance Station through William Birch, we are now pleased to announce that we have secured a mechanical scheme at the prestigious Wellington Place project courtesy of Wates Group and Lorne Stewart.

The scheme will see LMB Group working alongside Lorne Stewart for the first time, installing the new heating and chilled water systems, these will comprise of over 100 modules per floor, complete with interconnecting pipework, second fix Fan Coil Unit connections and valve arrangements across 8 floors. The installation will also see LMB Group installing condensate drains from the Fan Coils, and connections to the risers.

LMB Group Managing Director Andy Bean commented, “The team really had to move swiftly to secure this contract. We initially visited site last week after an introduction we received through Wates and it was paramount a quick turnaround was required. This is the first occasion we have worked with Lorne Stewart which is exciting in itself. To also say, we have been part of another iconic development in Leeds with Wates Group/Lorne Stewart is fantastic. I’m very hopeful this can become a great working relationship in the future between the three companies”

 

LMB Group Secure New Contract With William Birch

13/11/2018

After weeks of negotiations, LMB Group are pleased to announce that we have secured the mechanical package for the Leeds Ambulance Station, courtesy of William Birch which holds up to 65 NHS ambulances. The package will see LMB Group provide a new ventilation system for the main garage and refurbish the surrounding office spaces and W/C facilities.  

After a pre-start meeting on the 13/11/2018, LMB Group are expected to commence works, week commencing the 19^th of November, with the duration of the project lasting approximately 18 weeks.

Director Steve Mortimer was pleased with the latest contract win and added “We are delighted to have won this contract with William Birch. The back end of the year is starting to really shape up for the company, as we look forward to a strong start in 2019. We have worked with William Birch on various schemes now and it’s always a great feeling when you secure repeat business. LMB Group Secure New Contract With Bermar Building

Project: Ilkley Grammar School
Client: Bermar Building
Value: £345,150

LMB Group are delighted to announce that we have secured our latest project with Bermar Building, this time in the heart of Ilkley. LMB Group will be providing the full M&E package to Bermar Building, which will see both West Yorkshire based businesses work together for the twenty third project since 2010.

Bermar Building will be adding a new build extension to the existing school and will see LMB Group mechanically install a new heating system to the toilet and classroom areas, new sanitary fittings, new hot water calorifier and associated HWS pipework will be installed to serve the WC and kitchen areas.

Electrically we shall be installing new lighting, small power, fire alarms, data cabling and patch cabling, plus new electrical distribution throughout, as the building is to be integrated into the site wide systems of the existing installations.

LMB Group Managing Director Andy Bean, was delighted with the latest contract win. He added “To secure our twenty third project with Bermar is a great achievement for all the staff at LMB. We work hard to always go above and beyond for our clients, whilst consistently demonstrating our commitment to excellence whilst we are on installation duties. Charity Boost for 2019

As we nearer the end of another successful year for LMB Group, our thoughts and attentions are already looking to 2019 and the impact our business can have on our community from a charity perspective.
